Learn more about Safer Internet Day and activities for the classroom from ConnectSafely CEO Larry Magid and education director Kerry Gallagher.

This year, Safer Internet Day focuses on the idea that everyone plays an important role in making the internet better.

Our theme is “The Internet starts with I” — asking everyone to think about “What I can do to make the internet better.” And while we can take personal responsibility for our own actions, we can also work together. “Internet” ends with T,” reminds us that we’re all in this together. That includes families, companies, governments, and everyone else. We all have a role to play.

ConnectSafely’s Education Director Kerry Gallagher created lesson plans for elementary, middle and high school students with activities based on our theme in the following topic areas:

Parent-Guardian Letter

Additional resource for families: Elementary school-aged kids can play Google’s Interland, a web-based online adventure game that teaches critical digital safety skills. Players visit Kind Kingdom, Reality River, Mindful Mountain and Tower of Treasure to learn about the importance of being kind online, guarding against scams and keeping personal information private.
